Big Horn Dental System

 OBJECTIVE The objective of this project is to automate the above mentioned three separate operations, currently performed manually by the Big Horn Dental, along with other functionalities. The developed system should help the clinic manage a large number of clients more efficiently by storing patient details, patient treatment details, and payment details in a structured and organized way. The system should act as a project planning tool for employees, assigning tasks to them and keeping a track of their progress, leading to effective human resource management. The system should provide useful information about the clinic to the clients and should be able to interact with them. This will help in the marketing of the clinic. The system should also be capable of generating bills and accepting payments from patients as well as insurance providers.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION Manual processes are more prone to human error. Usually, the data with manual processes is stored in files which are accessed by more than one employee, giving rise to data integrity, data inconsistency and sometimes data duplication errors. Client and payment data are very sensitive and should be handled more carefully. A database system which will make storing, retrieving and manipulating easier for the users would be an apt solution. A website capable of increasing the client base would be significant for publicizing and marketing the clinic. 
PROJECT DESCRIPTION The system to be developed is subdivided into two parts: a client facing website supporting the internal operations of the clinic and a database system storing data. The website will be the face of the clinic to the outer world. It will display useful information such as services offered by the clinic, dentists associated with the clinic and their specialty, clinic history, clinic objectives, and contact information etc. People would be able to browse through this data and create accounts on the website helping the clinic increase volume of patients and improve client relationship. Each login will have different permissions. A person will be able to create an account on the website by filling personal information such as name, address, SSN, phone, email and allergies etc. and insurance provider information if they have one. By logging into the website, patients will be able to schedule an appointment with a particular doctor on a specific date at the available slot. He will be able to cancel or reschedule the appointment to a different date. The patient will be able to view his treatment records retrospectively as well. The website will be used by the employees to perform their duties. The dentist will be able to view his appointments and plan his day accordingly. The staff worker will use this website to prepare daily schedule of all the appointments. The website will have the capacity to generate bills, accept patient payment and generate payment receipts. The website will provide a project planning tool 
Big Horn Dental 5 for other employees like the hygienists and dental technicians who will use it to keep a track of their tasks assigned by their supervisor, pending and completed both. The database system will have data about the employees, clients, services offered, insurance providers, patient treatment, bill generation data and payment data etc. This data will be used for display on the website, for preparing schedules, sending reminders to clients, and recording payment made by clients. Hence, the database system will be the backbone of the website supporting it for its diverse set of functionalities.  
ASSUMPTIONS 1.Patient gives office insurance information and office files claims. 2.Each household has one insurance policy. 3.Payment is made by insurance or household head – no one else will make payments toward the bill.
